Coach Kyle is a functional health coach, certified by the Kresser Institute.. He has a passion for helping people improve their health and themselves. In this modern world it is becoming increasingly hard to thrive physically and mentally. It might seem that the game is rigged, and not in our favor. Leaving many feeling lost or looking for answers. Coach Kyle helps people to understand that the answers they seek are not out there to be discovered or revealed to them, but rather, are within them waiting patiently to be heard. The path to wellbeing is a deeply personal journey, perhaps one of the most important we can embark on. As a coach, Kyle seeks to maintain the unique and personal nature of this journey. He does not choose the destination nor steer your ship through the journey. His purpose is to act as wind in your sails to help propel you forward.
First, we must throw out the old paradigm of what pain is. Pain is not a direct result of damage to the body. What is the purpose of pain? Pain is the most powerful tool for the brain to modify our behavior. Yes, pain can be the result of physical damage to the body. The brain is modifying our behavior to take action to address the damage that has been caused. If you sprain your ankle, the brain uses pain to prevent you from causing further damage and allow the ankle to heal.
This isn't the only way pain is used though. When we engage in a behavior that the brain interprets as a threat to the body, the brain will intervene with pain to deter that behavior, even if no damage was ever done. In this way pain can serve as a warning before damage is caused to the body. For example, bending your finger backwards will cause pain before any actual injury is caused. Your brain recognized this behavior as a threat and created pain to correct the behavior.
All of this stress can have a profound effect on one's health and wellbeing. Stress has a way of contributing to and worsening most diseases or conditions and can even cause disease on its own. The human body is an amazingly resilient machine that is capable of enduring tremendous amounts of stress. However, like any machine, if it is stressed continuously and for too long the machine will start to wear and break down. You can push your car's engine to its limits now and then without issue, but if you drive it like that daily something is going to break. Race cars, being driven in this way, have just about every part of the engine replaced at least once throughout a single racing season. Unlike mechanical machines, the body and mind have the ability to repair itself. Yet, when the stress is constant the body and mind never get the chance to recover and we sure aren't being taken care of like a race car, having our parts replaced at the first sign of wear. Without regular respite from the stress our bodies and minds begin to wear and break down in one way or another.
